Match report: England 0 – 0 Algeria

Lampard (left) and Ronney looked very much disappointed

The Fear Factor- England carry on to competition their own match at the World Cup. Frighteningly missing in energy and belief, Fabio Capello’s side carry on to seethe whether at height above sea level or now at sea level. Paradise knows what Franz Beckenbauer will construct of this. England fans did: they howled in contempt.

After a second successive position, it’s back to the drawing board for Capello, who dreadfully needs to shake Frank Lampard into life and formulate a system that brings more out of the disconsolate Wayne Rooney before the final Group C match with leader Slovenia.

The first half had completed with a outbreak of boos measurable amidst the vuvuzela horns and England trumpets. Capello’s side had been unfortunate in the opening 45 minutes, missing in energy, shape and belief. Only Gareth Barry impressed whereas Gerrard attempted to drive his team on but Capello’s system seemed to slow down the players.

England’s aim was equally tempered by a carelessness in possession near the beginning on with Emile Heskey and astonishingly Frank Lampard gifting the ball to the Algerians. They may have an aversion to the Jabulani but this swiftness to get rid of it could have been expensive in the opening interactions as Algeria looked polite going forward, predominantly out wide.

Algeria had begun in 3-4-2-1 formation through Nadir Belhadj and Kadir operating as wing-backs stretching England and underneath a fluid front three of the brilliant Karim Ziani, Boudebouz and Karim Matmour.

30th number ranked in the world to England’s 8th, Algeria were speedy to press more vaunted opponent, rapid to make sure that well-known men from the Premier League struggled to settle. Capello was at the side of himself with antagonism at times, shouting "come on, come on’’ and gesticulating passionately as moves broke down.

Match Report: England 1 - 1 USA

After the exaggeration of the build-up, England were seemingly cruising at 1-0 through Steven Gerrard’s early goal when, in front of the nation, the world, Green let a habitual shot from Clint Dempsey slip through him and get into the net.

It is harsh on the likeable Green, who has worked hard to become England’s first choice; he’ll now be remembered for this most discomforting of mistakes.

Green’s fault was not the only trouble with England’s performance. The USA hit a post in the second half and used their swiftness to problem a defence that was upset by the half-time pulling out of Ledley King.

This was far from an adversity for England, though. The USA are a compact, very much organized defensive unit with swiftness and wiliness going frontward and the draw should not obstruct England’s advancement. They should have won, in spite of Green’s fault, having 18 shots on goal and getting into shows potential positions only to hit an infuriatingly poor final ball.

Just four minutes they had in the lead. Glen Johnson took a throw-in from the right, Frank Lampard who prodded the ball towards Wayne Rooney. It was just to the front of England’s No 10 but rolled on to Emile Heskey.

England were getting into superior positions but lacked the crisp final ball, or undeniably the movement in the box, to capitalize. Aaron Lennon should have shot from a tremendous location on the corner of the six-yard box but as a replacement for crossed in a meaningless way; Gerrard twisted Michael Bradley on the byline only for Carlos Bocanegra to clear his miss-hit cross; Johnson played a joking ball across the face that was just in front of Heskey.

That last chance missing a brave Tim Howard in torture on the grass, having taken Heskey’s earrings in his ribs. The Everton goalkeeper was particular the man-of-the-match award for his calm, cool display. England would have given for his serenity.

Rooney was ravenous of the ball and when he got it, he could not work the space he wanted for himself. He hit one swerving shot wide and set up Wright-Phillips for a good chance that Howard stood up to fine.

Having looked the more likely winners as the second half outspread, England completed the game infuriatingly. With Peter Crouch on as a late replacement, England resorted to the bad old habit of beating directionless long balls in his general direction.

That permitted Howard to waste time and if you looked-for any further confirmation of how the Americans viewed this result, you only had to watch their team quickening to celebrate with their fans at the final shriek as if they had won.

Match Report: Argentina 1 - 0 Nigeria

The celebrating throng in sky blue, a besuited Diego Maradona sprinted over the Ellis Park turf. Was this the moment while Argentina’s perfect 10s, present and past, established that they have found the key to a wonderful attack on a third World Cup achievement? Here was perfect synchronization reigning both off and on the playing field as the sorcerer watched his trainee with the same fear the relax of the world must have completed.

After all the understandable question marks over Maradona’s eccentric stewardship, this was a vigorous opening comeback against a flexible Nigeria.

In an attractive and open contest which felt as if it had given the contest its proper takeoff, Argentina were fluid, innovative and emission quality and, even if some of their inattentive defending will offer hope to later oppositions, with Messi in this coruscating mood, anything seems possible. The only thing he didn’t do that was goal, which hardly seems promising.

Vincent Enyeama had the game of his life to make four unbelievable saves to put paid to him — and he also made another some remarkable stops from Gonzalo Higuaín — yet it was still not sufficient to avoid Maradona making a winning comeback to the World Cup finals stage.

Sixteen years since his last dalliance finished in drug-taking humiliation following a match in Boston also in opposition to Nigeria, he was in his constituent again. Suited, booted and tied for his new big business, he went throughout comic-looking joys and agonies on the bench, barked at an authorized and put arms around his young winger Ángel di María while offering suggestion.

And when Gabriel Heinze’s sixth-minute header from Juan Sebastián Verón’s corner bulleted into the net, there looked more than an intimation of relief assorted with 'keeping on sucking it’ justification in his celebrations.

He declared afterwards “It was lovely to be back.” Attractive to see the first part of his wish satisfied, that Messi graces this tournament like he himself did in 1986. “Football is much prettier when he is receiving a lot of the ball like this,” cooed Maradona.

The World Cup desires the Maradona show, too. “The hand of God” has reached, read one banner. Next, they’ll be conversation about Maradona’s 'brain of God’, after his exploratory attacking method with Messi buzzing in from deep at the back Higuaín and the ever-busy Carlos Tévez – much more gratifying than the 4-1-3-2 which he had promised to field after his men had crushed Germany in March — united so pleasantly.

Messi took three minutes to introduce him from deep, whipping three players and flicking the ball inside, only for Higuaín to punch wide. In this week, the Argentina physio had been quoted about the small man’s “irreversible” drowsiness after a very tiring season; the only thing irreversible about him, although, is the talent as he offered his total catalogue of feints, left-footed curlers and mazy dribbles.

“We’re on the way,” told Maradona. “We want to keep the people of Argentina joyful and when you start winning, you start to get the feeling like we did in World Cup 1986. I want the players to now start sharing that feeling.”

Argentina: Messi, Tevez, di Michelis, Higuain (Milito 79), Heinze, Romero, Samuel, Gutierrez, Veron (Maxi 74), Mascherano, Di Maria (Burdisso 85);

Nigeria: Yobo, Taye (Uche 74), Enyeama, Yakubu, Etuhu, Haruna, Odiah, Shittu, Kaita, Obasi (Odemwinge 60); Obinna (Martins 52)

Match report: South Korea 2 - 0 Greece

South Korea is the team who registered the first win at the World Cup 2010, a well-deserved 2-0 victory against Greece to furnish them a genuine chance of achieving their objective of a last-16 berth.
South Korea, semi-finalists of the competition 2002 when they co-hosted, were very swift and very elegant for Otto Rehhagel's Euro 2004 champions, who were sent packing by goals from captain Park Ji-sung and Lee Jung Soo.
South Korea took the lead after seven minutes while Celtic's Ki Sung Yueng's free-kick next to the left corner flag skimmed over the heads of the Greek defence for Lee to volley in at the far-flung post.
Bearing in mind it was Greece with their far greater statures that were supposed to present the set piece warning, the approach of Korea's goal will have come as a disclosure.
South Korea were close to a second goal in the 27th minute after Park Ji-sung's excellent through ball found Park Chu Young only for the Monaco striker's shot over the crossbar by keeper Alexandros Tzorvas.
Rehhagel completed one switch at the half time, replacing captain Giorgis Karagounis with defender Christos Patsatzoglou.
Seven minutes later Greece, who has never had the enjoyment of celebrating first World Cup goal, fell further behind after a masterful indict by the sparky Park Ji-Sung.
The talismanic Manchester United midfielder beat off defenders Avraam Papadopoulos and Loukas Vyntra to niche the ball dexterously past Tzorvas, triggering an outbreak of flag waving among the Korean fans.

Mexico's Rafael Márquez cancelled out South Africa wonder goal

Just when the game beginning to look as if even Africa could do monotonous, the World Cup rupture into life with a tremendous goal for the home side and that most welcome of things, a tremendous opening game. Without a doubt, an enjoyably winded one, or at least a breathless second half.
South Africa appeared sluggish in a slow first half; though there was no intimation of that when Siphiwe Tshabalala scored an electric opener, putting down an indication even in the early hours for one of the goals of the competition. There will not be many swifter counterattacks and Tshabalala's strike distorted a game and a crowd that had begun to straighten out for disappointment. It was shame when Rafael Márquez evened belongings up 11 minutes from the end, although Mexico were dangerous the whole time and deserved to take something from the match, even if Katlego Mphela did hit the post in the last minute of typical time. Tshabalala told afterwards, "That could have been the murderer goal". "It would have been a grand goal. There's nothing we can do about it."
Never mind what would have been a jaw-dropping finishing had Mphela been on target but draw was fair. The South Africa captain, Aaron Mokoena told, "We played extremely well and still have two games to go." "There's no use lodging on what might have been, it's all about South Africa constructing from this."
Parreira told, "We could simply have won the match. We were more balanced in the second half and could have won." "But draw is fair. I’m expecting things will now be decided in our final game against France."

Match report: France 0 – 0 Uruguay

15 goals in all game proved dominant in Chelsea’s huge success last season by Malouda, was apparently axed by Domenech following a row in training on Thursday.
The midfielder, it appears that unconvinced at plans for him to play a defensive position behind the Bordeaux playmaker Yoann Gourcuff, ended training with Domenech urging captain Patrice Evra to issue a notice over his ‘violent behavior’ on the practice pitch.
Uruguay abridged to 10 men subsequent the second-half dismissal of replacement Nicolas Lodeiro subsequent a dangerous challenge on Bacary Sagna, frustrating the French.
Domenech told: “There are 23 players and they are all involved, but I made an option tonight and Malouda didn’t disappoint me with what he did when he came on. “In the ending 15 minutes, we saw a good performance from Malouda. A player that I bring on the pitch 15 minutes earlier than the end is one I bring on because I trust he will contribute. “But there are 23 players and that’s all that concerns for me. I have nothing to say about anything else.”
Rumors emanating from their Knysna base recommended that superior players were twisted on forcing Domenech to take account of Thierry Henry in his starting line-up, whereas the coach continuous faced criticism after omitting Karim Benzema player of Real Madrid’s, from his squad in favor of the ex-Liverpool forward Djibril Cisse.
Domenech is persistently determined, but falling a player who enjoyed the best campaign of his career last time in favor Abou Diaby, a defensive midfielder, was a extraordinary move against opponents whose game is based around adverse the opponent.
In the first-half France dominated, though, with winger Franck Ribery building easy job of the Uruguay right-back Mauricio Victorino.
Barely Sidney Govou will feel how he unsuccessful to hit the target from six-yards after Ribery had crossed following a waltz past his marker.
Uruguay are no longer the strength that saw the tiny South American nation lift the World Cup in 1930 and 1950, but Diego Forlan slightest displayed a number of first-class.
The last time these two countries met in the World Cup 2002, they played out a depressing 0-0 draw in Busan.
As they continued to work hard at the start of the second-half, the vision of another draw grew with each and every poor pass.
Ribery started brilliantly but washed out, as Jeremy Toulalan, Nicolas Anelka and Gourcuff couldn’t even claim that uncertain characteristic. Many players on the French part were weakening to rationalize their superior reputations.
France was in need of a portion hand from the bench, but Henry sustained to be unnoticed by Domenech and Anelka was absent to plough on in his solitary forward role.
With a conflict against the hosts South Africa next up for Uruguay, however, Coach Oscar Tabarez approved that his team must claim a victory in Pretoria on Wednesday.
Tabarez told: “Once we had the player sent off, our main concern was just to see out the game and make sure we came away with a point. “But among the teams in the group sketching today, we know that we have to win our next game in opposition to South Africa.”
Domenech told: “We didn’t finish as we should have done, so it’s frustrating not to have won the match. “I require thinking about my team, but we need to take stockpile and take our time.”

Group G: death Group

The World Cup's Group G with Brazil, Portugal and Ivory Coast struggle for two places while North Korea gives attention to on damage limitation.

Brazil have lifted the cup that symbolizes universal football incomparability a record five times, Portugal completed fourth at the last tournament in 2006 and many scholars consider Ivory Coast the best African bet for brilliance.

And whereas North Korea is universally regarded as 'cannon fodder', none of the 32 teams has organized more systematically than the little known squad from the isolated nation. Superstars abound in the first-round 'Group of Death' as Brazil boasts Kaka, while Portugal is inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Ivory Coast's Didier Drogba ranks beside them in probable impact but the striker's chances of playing in the first World Cup on African soil hang in the balance after surgery on a broken arm. The Ivorians are desperate for Drogba to get well in time.

The opening Group G play on Tuesday between Ivory Coast and Portugal in Port Elizabeth may perhaps decide who else progresses with European champions Spain the probable second-round opponents for the second-placed finisher.

Coach Dunga has assembled a strategically tidy squad that espouses the work ethic and plays as a team with no position for the prima-donna issue that cost Brazil extremely in the past.

Dunga left out Ronaldinho, but Kaka is rounding into form after a poor entrance season in Madrid.

Portugal needed a oppose against Bosnia-Herzogovina to arrive at South Africa after a qualifying campaign in which midfielder-cum-striker Ronaldo unsuccessful to score in seven matches before being sidelined by injury.

Queiroz though was satisfied to see Real Madrid defensive midfielder Pepe back after six months out with a knee injury. The coach said "It's fantastic. With the help of Real Madrid's doctors, the Portuguese federation and the technical staff of the national team, we have done a meticulous job".

Luck has dealt Ivory Coast a malicious World Cup hand twice after receiving the Netherlands and Argentina in Germany four years ago, and the late choice of former England supremo Sven Goran Eriksson as coach barely boosts continuity.

Drogba injured, Is he able to play in World Cup?

Couple of minutes into an international friendly between Ivory Coast and Japan last Friday, a week before the opening kickoff of the 2010 World Cup and Didier Drogba went down.

“Drogba had just put the Ivorians ahead when he was injured in a 15th-minute clash with Japan central defender Tulio and left the field clutching his right arm," News of the UK’s Telegraph.

He had suffered a fractured ulna in his right forearm, which may possibly have put an ending to Drogba's World Cup dreams.

As one of the world's most productive strikers, this loss spelled adversity for his team and the Ivory Coast fans, which is in "the group of death" beside powerhouses Portugal and Brazil. The Ivory Coast, one of the most shows potential African teams, was counting on Drogba's contributions as a striker.

But the Chelsea front man underwent emergency surgery, and it looks as though he might be able to play in Dream able World Cup after all.

The question is raising here: if Drogba be able to play, and players have in the past had played with broken bones and arm casts, how efficient can he be?

Tevez said: "This is a World Cup. Who can not been motivated when they have this opportunity? In the qualifiers everything was a lot more difficult. Injuries didn't allow me to be fully fit, something that's not the case today. Honestly I feel 10 out of 10. I am a lot more focused than four years ago, I'm preparing myself very much for the first game. Since I got on the plane from England to travel to Argentina and join the group, I have been thinking about the opener against Nigeria."
