Log in YouTube with Google account

Google account logins would optional at first, but would later become mandatory, which bought YouTube for $1.65 billion in 2006.

YouTube users could sign up to the site using one of two systems: the Google account system or the original, pre-acquisition account system between 2006 and May 2009. From May 2009 elapsed, Google essential all new YouTube users to sign in using a Google account.

Software engineer at Google, Brett Hobbs post on his blog, “YouTube usernames themselves aren’t going anywhere,” “No matter when you signed up for YouTube, or if you’re currently associated with a Google account, you’ll keep exactly the same username on the site.”

“You can create a Google account with any email address through many different Google products, just like you can create a Facebook or Twitter account with any email address.”

“Having all users on the same account system not only simplifies matter, but more important, it makes it much easier to use Google technologies to keep YouTube running smoothly.”

Google said that YouTube users can log on with older accounts or create a brand new one. The company has also created a Help Page to guide users.
